Abstract: The article represents the outcome of a research project that has been conducted with the objective of investigating the social context of the Holocaust in Slovakia through an analysis of vertical social mobility within the environment of the People‘s Party political elite. The subject of the analysis is the life trajectory of Andrej Germuška (1902–1992), with particular attention paid to the interpretation of those life events from the interwar period and the breakthrough year of 1938, which may offer an explanation of his political and human attitudes in the process of Aryanization. The analysis illustrates a direct correlation between the vertical social mobility of the People‘ s Party elite at the lower levels of the hierarchy and the nature of the anti-Jewish policy, as well as the broader regime of the Slovak state between 1939 and 1945.
