Abstract: This study examines the role of the Slovak women’s association Živena in the postwar period, focusing on its efforts to defend its reputation and ensure its survival during the political and social changes following 1945. It explores how the organization used its involvement in the Slovak National Uprising as both an alibi and an argument in negotiations with the new regime. Based on archival sources, the study analyzes Živena’s strategies of self-presentation, its attempts at rehabilitation, and the broader context of women’s organizations navigating the shifting political landscape of post-war Slovakia.
