Abstract: The year 1943 marked a major turning point in the Second World War. The Battle of Stalingrad, Allied air raids that hit German industry and cities, developments in Italy, and the fall of Mussolini shook people‘s confidence in Nazi Germany and its allies‘ ability to win. Although the war itself still seemed distant, its effects on everyday life were becoming increasingly evident. How did the people of Slovakia and the Sudetenland perceive the situation at the time? How did it affect their mood, attitudes, and faith in the future? Can we find commonalities between these regions, or was the situation fundamentally different? And can we even consider them as peripheries of the Nazi Reich?
