  • Abstract: The concept of historical memory has added value compared to older terms such as historical consciousness, second life, cultural heritage, traditions, etc. Compared to older concepts, it attaches greater importance to the dynamic and unstable relationship between what is forgotten and what is remembered, does not ignore the socalled dark heritage, and explains why we produce different versions of the past. Around 2010, in connection with the rapid development of new communication technologies, there began to be talk of a third wave of memory studies, which emphasize the continuous „travel“ of memory across and beyond territorial, social, and mental boundaries. It is not only about emphasizing the interdisciplinarity and dynamic nature of memory, but above all about efforts to understand what memory means in the context of globalization and technological change. Today‘s fourth wave of memory studies is characterized by a broader time horizon and different temporalities, geographical and disciplinary expansion, a new sensitivity to ecological transformations, and the importance of planetary thinking. The study deals with new trends, theories, and concepts in Memory Studies, including mnemonic solidarity, slow memory, and the intersection of memory and activism. The next section takes stock of the state of memory studies in our country and focuses on the new culture of remembrance, the shift from heroes to victims, and transnational remembrance of the Holocaust and the Gulag. In conclusion, it summarizes the rules for a correct, consensual approach to the past.

Česko-slovenská komisia historikov je bilaterálna komisia, ktorá vznikla v roku 1994. Jej členov menuje Slovenský národný komitét historikov pri Slovenskej historickej spoločnosti a Český národní komitét historiků. Komisia sa venuje propagácii českých a slovenských dejín, spolupráci českej a slovenskej historiografie, organizuje vedecké semináre a vydáva Česko-slovenskú historickú ročenku.

Česko-slovenská komisia historikov bola v čase od mája 2011 do apríla 2012 koordinátorom štandardného grantu Medzinárodného vyšehradského fondu č. 21110109 (International Visegrad Fund, ID 21110109) s názvom Formy nacionalizmu v strednej Európe v 20. storočí (Forms of Nationalism in Central Europe in the 20th Century)
