Abstract: This study conceptualizes in a new way the issue of industrial workers’ class aversion towards the elites under the state socialist regime in Czechoslovakia. The establishment of the Communist Party dictatorship did not mean that workers’ distrust of members of the former capitalist elites disappeared. It was, in fact, transformed into similar expressions of resentment, this time directed against officials of the state and party bureaucratic apparatus. The persistence of class tensions in the factories thus continued to affect a number of important economic and social processes. This study is based on extensive research in archival sources describing spontaneous protest actions by workers, particularly strikes.
